THE OLD MAN & THE GUN is based on the true story of Forrest Tucker (Redford), from his audacious escape from San Quentin at the age of 70 to an unprecedented string of heists that confounded authorities and enchanted the public. Wrapped up in the pursuit are detective John Hunt (Affleck), who becomes captivated with Forrest’s commitment to his craft, and a woman (Spacek), who loves him in spite of his chosen profession. Academy Award winners Robert Redford and Sissy Spacek lead an all-star cast, including Danny Glover, Tom Waits, Elisabeth Moss, and Casey Affleck, in director David Lowery’s true-life dramedy about an unrepentant bank robber and jail-breaker determined to live life by his own rules.

Great opener for our season, I found myself smiling and laughing out loud.

I loved the septuagenarian romance - it felt real and genuine.

I like the way the director cuts from one scene to another without revealing the end of the first scene, Keeps one guessing/ All elements work, including the editing.

A great pleasure to see Redford interact with Spacek, and to see Affleck’s acting style. When I watched the movie tho, I found it’s pacing quite slow. But the discussion afterwards made a BIG difference and in the end I found a great appreciation for the whole movie.
