As children, Ruth, Kathy and Tommy, spend their childhood at a seemingly idyllic English boarding school. As they grow into young adults, they find that they have to come to terms with the strength of the love they feel for each other, while preparing themselves for the haunting reality that awaits them.
I thought it was disturbing, but the most powerful message was to find and appreciate the moments of love and connection in our lives, regardless of the circumstances of our lives.

OMG! I am so grateful for the discussion; it gave me so much more to think about. I wish everyone who sees it could benefit from Gerry's comments!

Nice love story but the context was too contrived. Can accept the idea of cloning, but not at all clear why no one rebelled against the system.

I thought the movie was great! Even though the story was semi-sci fi, I think everyone can identify with the feelings of helplessness and powerlessness that these actors and this story so excellently portray.

Wonderful translation to the screen--I read the book. Faithful in bringing the ideas of contracted lives, raging at the powers that be, and belief in things that aren't real. Thought-provoking. More emotional than the book.

Disturbing, chilling, dystopic. Had to suspend disbelief but oddly poignant and life affirming in its own way. Not for everyone but worth seeing. We ALL must grapple with the issues faced by Kathy, Tommy and Ruth--love, death, and the meaning of life.

Courageous film ... that does not succumb to easy audience expectations.

Very slow start, but all came together at the end.

This is the kind of film that will make me think about its themes for days.

One of the most thought-provoking and disturbing films I've ever seen. Extremely effective pace, style, lighting, and acting style.

Heart wrenching allegory--questions what we accept as humanity and our moral responsibility to respect all living things.

Shows the logical consequences of what can happen when certain groups of people are devalued for the benefit of others.

Beyond my twelth year I could not watch sci-fi without occasionally escaping its intensity with any discredit of its possibility. For me there was no such exit in this film, which was only lightly sci-fi and well timed in its revelations.
