Out of nowhere, Katja’s life falls apart when her husband Nuri and little son Rocco are killed in a bomb attack. Her friends and family try to give her the support she needs, and Katja somehow manages to make it through the funeral. But the mind numbing search for the perpetrators and reasons behind the senseless killing complicate Katja’s painful mourning, opening wounds and doubts. Danilo, a lawyer and Nuri’s best friend, represents Katja in the eventual trial against the two suspects: a young couple from the neo-Nazi scene. The trial pushes Katja to the edge, but there’s simply no alternative for her: she wants justice.

At the end of this, my heart felt as if it might beat right out of my chest. A wild ride indeed. It’s a real shame that Kruger is not nominated for this. That ending is so distressing, but it’s really the only way it could have ended.

One of the more interesting and exciting movies that used its nearly 2 hours to tell a fascinating story. Glad to see a spot-light on these neo-Nazi groups and how dangerous their beliefs are.

Kept waiting for a full moment for a dash to the ladies room. It never came. Beautifully written and photographed. Brilliantly acted. Perfect vehicle for Kruger, who brought it. Why is this not the best foreign film? Gets my vote.

Pacing throughout critical for the strong impact--starting with the near auto accident at the start and continuing to the court scene with its powerful photography--all the way to the scenes in Greece. The foreshadowing too started with the auto incident until her final decision. Of course, coming on the heels of the school massacre in Florida made this very timely.

I liked that the protagonist's portrayal didn't whitewash her character. Tension between "good wife/mother" and the fact that she had and added tattoos, listened to metal music, used drugs. The accused were much less developed characters, yet had the "more wholesome" image.

The film shows that grieving the death of loved ones is ultimately a solitary and lonely one no matter that she had a strong support system in her sister and lawyer. The strong pull of the sea reminded me of the power of water shown in "The Shape of Water." This was a very frightening immigrant story.
