At the peak of her international career, Maria Enders (Juliette Binoche) is asked to perform in a revival of the play that made her famous twenty years ago. But back then she played the role of Sigrid, an alluring young girl who disarms and eventually drives her boss Helena to suicide. Now she is being asked to step into the other role, that of the older Helena. She departs with her assistant (Kristen Stewart) to rehearse in Sils Maria; a remote region of the Alps. A young Hollywood starlet with a penchant for scandal (Chloë Grace Moretz) is to take on the role of Sigrid, and Maria finds herself on the other side of the mirror, face to face with an ambiguously charming woman who is, in essence, an unsettling reflection of herself.Gabriella Ausonio

Incredible. So much symbolism packed into one amazing film. Cloud imagery evokes Wagner, Leni Riefenstahl. Juliette Binoche is terrific as Maria Enders and her character Helena. Relationships are complex, intertwined. Art and life shown as an "infinity of mirrors." Kristen Steward as Val is excellent.

Multi-level, highly nuanced, totally absorbing. So many layers and symbols. Almost overwhelming at times to try to discern what was real from what was not. I thought my head was going to explode from concentrating so hard. Kristen Stewart just dominates the screen. One of the most compelling actresses I've ever seen.

Juliette Binoche did a wonderful job of portraying an actress who becomes immersed in the character of Helena to the point that she lives the life of the character in her private life. At the end she pulls herself together after her assistant leaves and finally realizes her timeless appeal.
