BROOKLYN tells the profoundly moving story of Eilis Lacey (Saoirse Ronan), a young Irish immigrant navigating her way through 1950s Brooklyn. The initial shackles of homesickness quickly diminish as a fresh romance sweeps Eilis into the intoxicating charm of love. Incredibly poignant. Saoirse Ronan as Eilis Lacey is perfect in the lead role--very empathy evoking. Use of colors--green, blues, black, brilliant yellow--matches the mood of actors. A "quiet" film that celebrates urban life.

Wonderful portrait of the arriving immigrant . . . the family's sacrifice, the desire for a better life, the courage of the arriving immigrant and the adjustment to the challenge of migrating. The film helps us and sensitizes us all to the challenge of immigration in any time period.
Wonderful character development showing her growth. She went from menthe to mentor.
Attention to detail by director is the genius of the film.
